Dinner ideas (pretty healthy and low calories)

What to make for dinner tonight?” is one of the questions I face when running out of dinner ideas, but I don’t have all the time a proper answer. However, as I found out recently, running out of dinner ideas it happens to others too, so I don’t freak out about this subject (as I used too :)).

I don’t know about others, but I usually resolve the dinner question this way: open the fridge and get an idea on what’s inside, then try to imagine what dishes clank I could make from what its there. I consider myself pretty creative in the kitchen and often invent new dishes, more or less tasty or healthy.

However, the best eating experience in my life didn’t happen in my dining room, but on a wonderful Cruise from New York to Bahamas where I could eat everything one can imagine under the sun. And I can say that I throw away all my fears of getting fat and I took full advantage of this opportunity. Beginning with the first day of the cruise I took some pictures of my favorite dishes on the Norwegian Gem Cruise ship, in order to remember the experience and recreate the dishes at home on days when I feel uninspired to answer to that simple question: “What to make for dinner tonight?”.  Here are some of them, and I’m curious which combination do you like best. 

 

  1. Pork steak with Vegetables (sweet potatoes, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, olives, some cooked bean, roasted corn and if you prefer, some slices of cheese). You can see that the plate is full more with vegetables than with meat.

2. Ocean fish baked in the oven with vegetables (spinach, carrots, mushrooms, green bean, boiled corn kernels, fresh sliced tomatoes).

3. Grilled chicken and veal steak with sauce and vegetables. That was really tasty, I highly recommend.

  1. These are great meals to try and recreate at home. I’m not a meat eater so I would say all those roasted veggies look delish.

  2. I’m not a fan of fish so I’d pick the chicken or pork!! They look great! I’m making pork chops tonight!!

  3. All these look yummy! I love having some meat or chicken with veggies. 🙂 Today I was home alone and too lazy to cook so I just had some vegetarian balls and potato wedges from freezer, oops.

  4. I do the same thing: open the fridge, pick cookable stuff, create something eatable, haha. I love all your three dinner ideas. The pork steak and the fish will be my top choices. I can’t leave out the grilled chicken though…I love most grilled meat and fish.

  5. Looks lovely! I live in Chile where most things are exported. Fish is expensive and not fresh. Miss growing up in Northern Canada with fresh salmon or arctic char, along with other seafood.

    • Thank you! I thought Chile will be full of fresh fish, don’t know why. You definitely were well fed in childhood with salmon, here (Romania) is expensive.

    • You’re welcome! Sometimes is easier to pick up a recipe from the net, however not all the recipes are ok, some of the food sites won’t give all their cooking secrets for free.

  6. Not going to lie, you caught me on a lazy day and I just got home from Burger King! These do look tasty though. My issue is never witht he cooking, it’s with the washing up afterwards!
