50 + dead, 400 + injured in Las Vegas shooting and they’re still counting. And it is expected that some of those injured to die the days to come. Most of the newspapers and CNN call this the deadliest ever US mass shooting. Psychopaths killers are getting more and more creative in choosing their ways to accomplish their horrible plans. Launching an attack from the 32nd floor of a nearby hotel? Who would have thought of that?
People were out to have a fun night attending a country music festival. Thousands of young people, and not only, gathered to listen live their favorite country singers. My heart goes out for every victim there. I love American country music so I can’t stop thinking I would have been in the crowd if happened to be in Las Vegas last night.
Nevada gun laws are very permissive. Why?
I must confess that when I first heard of this mass shooting I thought that this could not happen if the shooter would not have access to guns. Yes, they say that behind the massacre is a man, but let me tell you this: that killer could not kill 50+ people and hurt more 400 victims without one or more guns. Having him had only a knife, he couldn’t kill so many victims. And he should have been in the crowd to do that, not at a safe distance. Many killers don’t have the courage to kill a person that is close to them and look in their eyes. With a gun is much easier to do that.
The killer is 64 years old Stephen Paddock from Nevada, a state with most permissive gun laws in the US. There is simply no need to make the necessary background checks for any private gun sales. Practically, any schizophrenic, sociopath or psychopath could buy a gun in this state. How is that possible in such a civilized country where the human rights are supposedly in high regards? Or maybe that’s exactly why it is this possible? Maybe they protect more the rights of sociopaths to have access to guns in order to put into action their horrific fantasies? What about the rights of normal mentally healthy people?
I’ve heard some arguments over the years from my American relatives that having guns is good for them so that they can defend themselves when attacked. However, they kept their guns locked so their kids could not reach them. But if a murderer suddenly enters their house, they would not even have the time to take their guns, much less to defend themselves. And the news of people getting killed in their homes despite the fact they had guns in the house to protect themselves, show that this argument is simply not valid.
The killer appears to be an ordinary citizen
Stephen Paddock apparently has no criminal history and has worked as an accountant or auditor. Sounds this like a criminal profile? He also was a licensed hunter and private pilot, indicating he lived a full life pursuing his passions: hunting and piloting. His house looks like an ordinary house, nothing indicate a criminal mind. That would make more difficult to find his motives for such a horrific massacre. Something has happened to him recently to turn to such violence.
